Forming A Band?
Looking to start a band? Join a band? Recruit a band member?
We tend to get a lot of posts on here about this kind of thing, so for clarity I thought it'd be a good idea to keep them all in the same place.
Maybe if those of us who are musicians would like to make themselves a profile in here it'll be clearer and more effective for everyone.
Let's see how it works. I'll kick things off.
Name: Ryan
Year: Third
Instrument(s): Acoustic guitar, electric guitar, melodic vocals, aggressive vocals
Experience: Guitar - 4 years, Vocals - 3 years. Have been playing guitar and doing aggressive backing vocals in a metal band
(Abaddon) for two years. Have also been doing my own acoustic stuff for about a year.
Influences: Slipknot, Machine Head, Lamb of God, Darkest Hour, Children of Bodom, Nile, Frank Turner, Mike Park, The Lawrence Arms,
Alkaline Trio, Rise Against, Meat Loaf.
If you're interested in joining/forming a band or recruiting a musician, please U2U the relevant member in order to keep this thread clean.

If anyone wants to start a punk-ish band, and needs a bad but... energetic... vocalist, let me know. I have no talent, but lots of... presence...

What is it about the Vampire myth that explains our intrest? Is it the overtones of sexual lust, power, control, or is it simply the fascination of
the immortality of the undead?

Name: Rich
Year: Ancient (write up of a part time Mphil, so about 6!)
Instrument: Guitar, since about 1997.
Experience: Gigged with a ska-punk band, played with a melodic hardcore band we couldn't keep together. Also interested in playing power metal. I am
lousy at learning covers (especially their solos!) so I am more likely to have original material. that said, I can play every Pistol's song, some Bad
Religion, AFI, Pennywise, Helloween's "Victim of Fate" (not the solo!), Iced earth's "Melancholy" and "Winter Nights" and some metallica and
Megadeth riffs if I have to!

Oh go on then, I'll throw my name in here:
Name: Tom
Instrument: My voice. Aggressive with a touch of deep melodic thrown in to boot
Experience: Until a few months ago with 'V-Twin' various gigs including supprorting Projekt and Evil Scarecrow. Previously with a couple of other
bands including 'Pyretta' with Al and Kam - the Trent old guard might remember those days
Influences: vocal style wise - Fear Factory, Paradise Lost, erm, Soil maybe. Take a fair bit of influence from Manowar in terms of writing
Basically metal in it's broad sense, but not black /death. As a vocalist i like to be able to make out the words!
Oh, and I do enjoy playing live and posing
Let my spirit rise, Valkyries carry me,
Take me to Valhalla, where my brothers wait for me,
Fire burn into the sky, my spirit will never die

Name: Fletch
Year: Fresher
Instrument: Keys/Synth (~10 years experience), Guitar (~2 years experience-self tought, I'm not that good though), Vocals (bought a mic recently for
singing along to things, I'm learning how to death grunt, and generally improve myself melodically, haven't the foggiest If I'm any good)
Experience: As I wrote on my introduction thread bit, I've been in 8-9 different bands throughout the years, varying genres for them all from classic
rock/blues, to gothic metal, to death metal, etc etc
I'm also a pretty alright song writer, between myself and my bands current guitarist we have 38 songs in different stages of construction, progress
is slow in learning them but we hope to learn 5 and then get them recorded soon
Influences: for keyboard playing, Janne Wirman, Rick Wakeman, Tuomas Holopainen, Rosie Smith, Jordan Rudess, (anyone who can name all of their
respective bands gets a cookie), for guitar most metal bands, Metallica, Machine Head, LOG, Trigger the Bloodshed, etc etc

Excellent, a keyboard player: Essential for a power metal band, but metal-liking keyboard fans are so far and few between.

Hmmmm, yeah forming a power metal band would be cool. I will have to check over my guitar stuff, of course, 'cause I know my amp is blown! I can name
at least three of the bands your keyboard influences come from, btw: Children of Bodom, Yes and Nightwish. CofB and Nightwish are favourites of mine.

genres people are into
I've yet to speak to any drummers but I'm sure there must be one somewhere......

Hey
I'm Alex and I play guitar. I'm really dying to play in a band and make some original music. My favourite bands are Muse, Billy Talent, Bloc Party,
Placebo, Radiohead and some others. That's not to say I want to clone their music, but a fusion of them could be pretty awesome
I'm not a pro at it but I do enjoy writing music now and then in Guitar Pro 5 and I'm quite proud of some of the stuff I've made. You may have seen
me at the Rock Soc gathering last sunday wearing a Muse t-shirt (which I'm a little less proud to wear since hearing The Resistance). But anyway,
Band socs' forums are down and I already know a few of the people from Rock soc so I thought I'd give this a try here.
Cheers

Abaddon are looking for a new drummer. We've been playing gigs for the past 9 months around Nottingham and have a lot of original material plus a few
covers that we like to do.
We take our influences from: Lamb of God, Machine Head, Arch Enemy, Darkest Hour, Killswitch Engage, Five Finger Death Punch, All That Remains etc.
Please reply if interested.

Hello. My name is Drumkit From Hell. I am a program which you can buy and add on to most studio/home recording software. I sound like a real drummer
but you can do insane shit with me as demonstrated by Meshuggah on Catch 33/I/War and Devin Townsend on Ziltoid The Omniscient.
I am useful in that I carry far less kit and i have more personality onstage than the usual human drummer. More prone to throw a hissy fit now and
again, though.
